There is at the surface infinite variety of things; at the centre there is simplicity of cause.

For ten years (2007-2017) I taught a group of gifted students in the Coquitlam School District, in suburban Vancouver, British Columbia. You can check out the work they do on their site. I’ve also taught open online philosophy and guitar courses.
I completed my Master’s of Education at the University of Victoria in 2016 by submitting a project called A Unit Plan of One’s Own: Digital Pedagogy for Critical Citizenship.
In 2017 I began working as a Faculty Associate at Simon Fraser University, and sessional instructor at the University of Victoria.
I am a runner, music maker, reader, writer, radio head and a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (’04).
Some of the things I’ve written here are:
- Why Learning Outside Matters: A continuation of the Unplug’d topic inspired by a September spent learning in the outdoors.
- Looking back on the Bears Thirty Person Rock Band Project: Reflections on a collaborative public learning project in the music classroom.
- Carrying Stones: Reflections on Canada, Unplug’d, and playing the Voyageur guitar.
- Web Radio in the K12 Classroom: Archives of #RadioforLearning experiments in distributed web radio.
- Opening K12 Education: A collection of links and my rationale in pursuing learning in the open of the web.
- Citizenship Learning and the Project of Enlightenment: Thoughts on the mandate of citizenship education in the twenty-first century by looking to the philosophical values of the Enlightenment period.
- Curriculum as Black Box: Schooling as a metaphor.
- The Digital Age and Curriculum in British Columbia: A final paper for a class in curriculum for my master’s.

I have to tell you this funny thing. I just started work as a new teacher at Claremont Secondary School in Saanich. One of the classes I teach is guitar which I’ve never taught before, and so I’ve been scouring the internet for resources and Ideas. I came across your assignments page on your talons rock band blog which I clicked on without even looking at the link. You have some awesome ideas on there and I felt inspired by it…. Then I realized that that was the highschool I went to (grad 06) and when I followed the rabbit trail I found that you also went to UVic as did I. Small world! Anyways, I hope you don’t mind my using your ideas, any little bit helps! Thank you!
